Upon retiring from a 32-year career in the Telecommunications industry, Brenda now serves as a full time volunteer in the non-profit sector. Her professional career advanced to the level of Regional Director where she held responsibility for over 400 employees and annual budgets in excess of $33 million dollars. Her assignments included three years based in Puerto Rico providing international services that included the Bahamas and Latin America.
In 2005, she founded Scholarship for South Florida, Inc., where she has assumed the role of Chief Operating Officer. Scholarship for South Florida is a 501(c)(3) organization established to promote academic excellence and provide scholarship assistance for South Florida students. To date, the organization has made available over $100 thousand dollars in the form of cash or in-kind scholarship assistance.
Brenda is a volunteer with the Miss America Scholarship Program and has served as Executive Director for the Miss Broward County Scholarship Pageant since 2004. In her role as Executive Director she has impacted the lives of hundreds of young women and has established close mentoring relationships with many of them. In 2017 Brenda was named Executive Director of the Year by the Miss Florida Scholarship Organization Board of Director.
